Testing and Education

  • To mark Biosciences Month in Florida, MFRF sponsored a “Make Your Own DNA Necklace” program during the Spring Children’s Fair at Patch Reef Park in Boca Raton.  Hundreds of children visited the Foundation’s booth, collected their own DNA (from their saliva), and with the help of bioscience students from Spanish River Community High School, added safe chemicals to a test tube and then extracted a string of their unique DNA to keep in a glass necklace.

Research

  • Dr. Anne Boykin, Dean of the Christine E. Lynn College of Nursing at Florida Atlantic University, and Dr. Richard Bennett, Lead Physician for Pediatric Associates, were honored with the 2007 “See the Light Awards”.
  • More than $100,000 was raised for education and research at “An Evening of Sweetness & Laughter” event with the musical comedy “Forbidden Broadway”Platinum Sponsor with Scripps Florida of the second annual Florida Biosciences Career & Education Expo including an educational curriculum and DVD, classroom presentations at area high schools and a new internship program.
  • Sponsored the Medical Update Session for the Annual National Tay-Sachs and Allied Diseases (NTSAD) Association Family Conference
